Vacheron Constantin: Since 1755, 265 years of watchmaking excellence.
Description:
Vacheron Constantin is one of the oldest watch manufacturers and has been continuously operating since 1755.
This elegantly designed watch has an awesome movement encased in an 18k white gold round case measuring 40 mm in diameter. It has a brown alligator strap and an 18Kt white gold tang buckle.
Although some versions of this watch come with a see-through crystal back that allows you to watch this beautiful 27 jewels/196 parts movement in action, this specific one comes with a solid case back.
The power reserve is 40 hours. Comes with a 22k gold elevated oscillating weight. Automatic self-winding 995461 movement with an anti-scratch sapphire crystal. Date window at 6 o’clock.
It is designed to be water-resistant to 100 feet, not that you want to do that with this magnificent timepiece.
Swiss Made. Hallmark of Geneva certification.
This watch’s timeless design is inspired by the timepieces manufactured by Vacheron Constantin in the 1950s. it’s a minimalistic approach in a very slender case that places an accent on the simplicity and efficiency of the simple white dial with sticks.
Finding a perfect balance between confidence and luxury, pure elegance.
It is always a great privilege for our watchmakers to be able to work on such a beautiful watch.
Gray and Sons received the watch from a collector that wanted to make sure we were going to follow manufacturers’ protocols to keep this watch 100% original and protect its present and future value.
- He wanted to understand how our company worked, the warranty we offer and talk to a person that he could explain the importance of each watch in his collection.
- He needed to confirm that we loved watches as much as he did. And he was convinced of that after talking on the phone for just a few minutes.
- He did his research online but wanted to make sure we were on the same page as he does not live in Miami and had to send the watch to us for service.
The main concerns for the watch collector to contact Gray and Sons was: reputation, price, and especially the time to service and return his precious timepiece. He maintained a long conversation with the service manager to make sure that his wishes and his watch were going to be in good hands and perfectly insured from his home to our shop and back.
Our Swiss-trained watchmakers took the job with great passion, as we love the intricate movements of a thin movement and appreciate the watch enthusiasts that wear them. A watch like this is a source of infinite pleasure. A great opportunity for our watchmakers to show the quality of their workmanship.
Every movement is different and it creates a different challenge. At Gray & Sons, we make it personal to bring every timepiece back to its original splendor, and we enjoy doing it. So, the process begins, the movement is removed. Case and buckle are sent to one of our highly specialized watch polishers to detail and buff up the gold to its original beauty, which requires a very clear understanding of the job to be.
Our watchmakers are specialists in Swiss manufactured simple or complicated movements. They have trained for years getting to know all the parts and how to better correct and prevent malfunctions and regulate the accuracy of timekeeping.
Gray & Sons carries a large inventory of parts to be able to repair and restore antique, classic, vintage, and modern movements, even pocket watches.
So, while the watch is being polished, the master watchmaker in charge of this job will disassemble the movement to the barest parts. Then, using a multi-stage process to remove dirt and old dried lubricants will bring this great movement back to its best performance guaranteeing the perfect assembly of the 196 parts to get this watch to work as it was originally designed.
This process takes approximately 9 to 10 working days to be achieved as no shortcuts are used, we, at Gray & Sons, only do this the old-fashioned way of the antique watchmakers, time-consuming, maybe, but we will make sure that it will keep time as it was designed to.
The movement is put together again to start working on the regulation, timekeeping accuracy, power reserve, and synchronization of all the parts involved for this magnificent movement to keep time.
Then the watch will be re-cased, and for the final checks, two specialists, separately, will test the power reserve of the movement manually, will use winding wheels too, and finally will use pressure testing machines to check for leaks on the seals and gaskets recently installed.
The watch is almost ready to be shipped back and as a final stage, we will have another associate check everything all over again with new eyes and have these final tests done once more before we ship it back to the owner.

TIP of the day: It is good to know that the most common service call we get at the shop is due to winding the watch while wearing it, which causes an extreme bending force in the crown, stem, and automatic mechanism forcing an unnecessary repair completely out of warranty, and a close second to that one is that while winding it out of the wrist, dropping the watch to the floor, which in case of hard floors would be a disaster.
We always recommend winding the watch on top of a desk, bed, or table.
