Corum was founded in 1955 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland by a duo of visionaries: watchmaker Gaston Ries, and his nephew Rene Bannwart. The name Corum was inspired by the Latin word "quorum," which loosely translates to "the necessary number of people needed to make a society or assembly official." Their logo, the upright key, goes back to their first motto, ""The key to perfect time"" which has since been updated to "Unlock and Conquer." They were the first company to incorporate real $20 American gold coins and Swiss Ingots into a wristwatch design and that achievement is what put the name Corum on the map.
