Restoration Overhaul & Detail - Reference MP7268 Maurice Lacroix Watch Service
Known as the affordable luxury swiss watch, Maurice Lacroix wristwatches has an outstanding reputation in the watch market because of their quality product and commitment to their craft. Having started as an offshoot of Desco von Schulthess Company and only recently becoming a stand-alone watch company, they rely on three things to stay in the game: reliability, consistency, and quality.
The Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece watch collection has quickly gained the attention of luxury watch wearers including the famous Swiss tennis player Roger Federer. The fascinating part of the Masterpiece watch collection is how the skeleton of the watch is revealed when you turn the watch over, this is called movement under glass.
This allows the wearer to admire the movement and mechanics of the watch. There is a dial that indicates the complications of the Masterpiece watch collection that displays the retrograde, power reserve, and subsidiary seconds; as well as a calendar. This levels you up in the watch competition.
Also known as Les Mécaniques, the Masterpiece collection by Maurice Lacroix has seen various iterations of their timepieces. One of their most famous being the Masterpiece Gravity. In the midst of the “quartz crisis”, Maurice Lacroix began purchasing, altering, then perfecting automatic movements while altering key elements of the watch. Movements with alarm functions, advanced chronographs, power reserve indicators, calendar modules, and more are derived from these renovated movements.
The creative directors at Maurice Lacroix who’ve designed the Masterpiece really made efforts to please consumers who appreciate intricately designed mechanics at a fair value. Maurice Lacroix manufactured their famous ML106 mechanism with the Masterpiece Chronograph in 2006; this was the first movement they completely designed on their own. Lacroix began manufacturing more and more timepieces and with every watch the case sizing got larger and larger.

Gray & Sons - Top Watch Repair Service Center For Swiss Mechanical and Automatic Complications
The watch used to repair came from a customer who identified some humidity below the surface of the crystal. The head of the watch had some minor scratches around the case that needed to be polished out. Every watch that comes into Gray and Sons Jewelers for repair will automatically receive a 12-month warranty once received by the customer post-repair.
First things first, we open the case back of the watch and look for any rusted or damaged parts that need sourcing. In this case, the movement had experienced some water entrance. Luckily, we caught it just in time and none of the parts had rusted. Once we’ve diagnosed the problem on the watch and know what extra watch parts are needed, our watchmaker takes apart the watch piece by piece and prepares it for cleaning.
The movement, crystal, and watch stem are separated from the head and bracelet. The case and bracelet are given to our head polisher while our watchmakers begin working on the movement. Piece by piece, our watchmaker begins dismantling the watch’s mechanism evaluating every piece.
Once the watch parts that need sourcing are identified, our watchmaker prepares the standing parts to be cleaned and sources the parts that are needed. We use six different cleaning solutions in an ultrasonic machine to make sure all dirt, dust, and dried oils are extracted from every crevice within the watch parts.
Once the watch parts are cleaned, the watchmaker starts to reassemble the movement while adding lubricants wherever designated and replacing all the gaskets for water resistance. This tedious process usually takes up to 6 hours per watch! Of course, assuming the watchmaker isn’t interrupted and all parts continue functioning.
While our watchmaker worked on the movement, we had our polisher give this watch a light polish around the case to remove the minor scratches. He then put the case in our ultrasonic machine for a cleaning session.
Once our watchmaker puts together the movement and re-cases the watch, it's time for the final steps of our repair process. Prior to returning the client their watch, we must execute a final quality control process to assure the watch is running as accurately as possible.
In this quality control, we measure the watch’s amplitude using special machines that listen to the heartbeat of the watch. We also test the watch’s water resistance with a machine that simulates a deep plunge using air pressure to check for leaks.
Additionally, we check that all complications are functioning fully; in this case the hour, minute, sub-seconds, date, and power reserve. If both amplitude and water tests pass, the watch gets put on our winding wheel for observation where it rotates and mimics the movement of the wrist.
With this machine, we can analyze the power reserve on the watch and make sure the automatic is providing power up to par throughout the day. Our complete restoration process usually takes around 6 to 8 weeks total.
