Watch Icons: Four Versions of the Hublot Big Bang
While Hublot is certainly a younger luxury watch brand in the Swiss watchmaking scene with a history that’s less than 40 years old, Hublot watches have become some of the most recognizable in modern watchmaking today. Aggressively styled, built with an array of high-tech materials, most Hublot watches are proudly bold and brash.
Although Hublot became famous for being the first watch company to pair natural rubber straps with precious gold watches in 1980, it wasn’t until the mid-2000s under the new leadership of Jean-Claude Biver, that the brand’s flagship watch would make its debut–the Hublot Big Bang chronograph. Aptly named, the watch certainly caused loud waves throughout the industry. Bestowed with a slew of awards during its first year, the Hublot Big Bang was both a commercial and critical success. As expected, the brand has continued to make a vast number of versions of the Big Bang watch and today we’ve rounded up four versions of this modern watch icon.
Hublot Big Bang Evolution Chronograph 44
The Hublot Big Bang Evolution 44 ref. 301.SM.1770.GR is a classic choice from the collection since it’s very similar to the original Big Bang watch. There’s the large 44mm chronograph case in stainless steel topped with a black ceramic bezel with the characteristic exposed screws. This is followed by a sleek carbon fiber dial with stick indexes, three subdials, and a date window in between 4 and 5 o’clock. And finally, fitted onto this Big Bang Evolution is not a rubber strap but rather, a dressier black leather strap.
Flip the watch around and you’ll see the HUB4100 automatic movement with a 42-hour power reserve in action via the sapphire caseback.
Hublot Big Bang Aero Bang Black Magic
As its moniker alludes, the “Aero” versions of the Big Bang have airy skeletonized dials housed within the cases. The Hublot Big Bang Aero Bang Black Magic. ref. 301.SM.1770.GR includes a sleek microblasted black ceramic case measuring 44mm in diameter along with a matching black ceramic bezel. The view of the matte black skeleton dial merges the standard trio of registers, center hands, and date window with the interior gears of the HUB4214 automatic movement beneath the dial.
This particular version of the Hublot Big Bang Aero Bang Black Magic is equipped with a black leather strap with a black PVD stainless steel deployant clasp.
Hublot Big Bang King
If you’re looking for a massive luxury dive watch, then there’s a Hublot Big Bang for that. Take for example the Hublot Big Bang ref. 322.LM.100.RX with an oversized 48mm case in palladium with a black ceramic bezel. As a dive watch, that bezel is not only marked to 60 minutes but is also unidirectional. Plus, the black dial is kept highly legible with large stick luminous markers, large luminous center hands, a date window at 3 o’clock, and a bright red seconds hand.
The automatic movement driving the watch is protected by a solid caseback and the Hublot Big Bang King is water resistant to 300 meters. Emphasizing the sporty nature of the watch is the black rubber strap with a palladium buckle.
Hublot Big Bang Porto Cervo
For an ultra-luxurious version of the Hublot Big Bang, there’s the Porto Cervo range. This Hublot Big Bang Porto Cervo ref. 341.PE.9114.RW.094 is not only crafted from 18k rose gold, but is also blanketed with sparkling diamonds. The 41mm case includes a lavish bezel set with baguette-cut diamonds along with diamond pavé on the case and lugs. The dial is also home to plenty of diamonds, leaving just enough space for the three subdials and indexes.
The back of the case includes sapphire crystal for a peek at the automatic HUB 4300 self-winding caliber. Complementing the warm rose gold and gleaming diamonds on the Hublot Big Bang Porto Cero is the white leather strap with a rose gold folding clasp.
Hublot offers an incredible assortment of Big Bang watches in a variety of sizes, styles, materials, and with different functions. However, regardless of which version you select, there’s no denying the sheer wrist presence of a Hublot Big Bang watch.
