Pre-SIHH 2017: Two New Piaget Watches To Celebrate the Altiplano Anniversary
Taking place January 16 – 20, 2017, this year’s edition of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) is just around the corner. And among the top luxury watch brands—including Cartier, Audemars Piguet, Panerai, IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, and many others— that will be showcasing their novelties for the year is none other than Piaget watches. One of our favorite high-end watch brands, Piaget has made a name for themselves by producing such coveted timepieces as the Piaget Polo, the Piaget Limelight, the Piaget Tanagra, and the Piaget Altiplano.
The Altiplano collection celebrates Piaget’s technical skill in creating ultra slim movements and timepieces. In fact, ultra-thin watchmaking is a particular specialty of the house of Piaget. In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Altiplano collection, the company has given us a sneak peek of two new versions of the famed Piaget watch. A new 43mm automatic model and a new 38mm manual version make up the Altiplano 60th Anniversary Collection.
Piaget Altiplano 60th Anniversary Automatic
Sporting a 43mm round case in 18k white gold, the new Piaget Altiplano 60th Anniversary Automatic is powered by the in-house Caliber 1200P. This ultra-thin movement—which was originally launched in 2010—measures a mere 2.35mm thick, allowing for the slim construction of the case. The elegance of the watchcase flawlessly matches the understated dial featuring a blue sunray pattern, thin stick hour markers, and slender hands.
Just under the Piaget logo we see the “automatic” label in reference to the self-winding Caliber 1200P that beats with a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers 44 hours of power reserve. The beauty of the movement—boasting the circular Côtes de Genève striped finish, circular-grained mainplate, and blued screws—can be admired via the transparent sapphire caseback.
Finishing off the commemorative Piaget watch is a blue alligator strap equipped with an 18k white gold pin buckle.
The Altiplano 60th Anniversary Automatic Piaget watch will have a limited production run of only 360 pieces and each piece will be individually numbered with an engraving on the caseback.
Piaget Altiplano 60th Anniversary Manual
The second part of the Altiplano 60th Anniversary Collection Piaget watch collection is the Piaget Altiplano 60th Anniversary Manual. Featuring a smaller, 38mm 18k white gold slim case, this particular model would be well suited for either a man who prefers a more restrained size or for a lady who enjoys larger watches.
Just like its sibling, the Altiplano 60th Anniversary Manual also houses a blue sunray dial with identical hands and indexes. Also, the smaller anniversary model is outfitted with the same blue alligator strap and 18k white gold buckle.
On the reverse side of the watch, the solid caseback is engraved with the Piaget coat of arms. Furthermore, since this timepiece will also be limited—but this time to include 460 models—the individual numbering of the watch is also found on the caseback.
Beating at the center of the Altiplano 60th Anniversary Manual is the manual-wound Caliber 430P, built in-house at the Piaget ateliers. Also ultra thin, the movement measures a slender 20.5mm and provides 43 hours of power reserve.
With a balance of classic design traits and contemporary flair, the pair of new elegant Piaget watches is a perfect tribute to the Altiplano anniversary. A nod to the past with an eye on the future.
Aside from these two beauties, we also look forward to seeing what other watches Piaget will be unveiling at SIHH 2017.
