The Appeal of Limited Edition Omega Watches: 1957 Trilogy Set
Omega is no stranger to releasing limited edition watches; the Swiss watchmaker often releases special edition and limited watches to honor various occasions in the fields of space exploration, the Olympics, James Bond movies, and of course, its own history. Take for example the limited edition Omega watches Trilogy Set. Launched in 2017, the 1957 Trilogy set a celebration of three iconic Omega watches that all made their debut six decades ago in you guessed it, 1957. As a result, each of these limited edition Omega watches is a faithful re-edition of the original Speedmaster, Railmaster, and Seamaster from the fifties. Let’s get a closer look.
The Omega Speedmaster 60th Anniversary Limited Edition
Known as the “Broad Arrow” in light of its unique hands, Omega’s original Speedmaster was the world’s first chronograph wristwatch to have its tachymeter scale as part of the bezel rather than included within the dial. Created for racecar drivers, the tachymeter allows for the computation of speed based on travel time or the measurement of distance based on speed.
The trilogy edition of this iconic watch pays tribute to its predecessor by perfectly replicating the original design and font of the ’57 tachymeter. Powering the Speedmaster 60th Anniversary Limited Edition is the 1861 caliber, a manual movement famous for its accuracy and durability.
The Omega Railmaster 60th Anniversary Limited Edition
The quintessential work watch, the 1957 Omega Railmaster was initially created for professionals who worked in proximity to electrical fields, such as scientists and technicians. Keeping the refined yet unpretentious look of its original design, the 2017 trilogy update honors the Railmaster’s simple, practical style perfect for daily wear.
Enabling a stronger reflection from its Super-LumiNova filling, however, this watch’s vintage indexes are more deeply engraved. The Omega Master Chronometer caliber 8806 sits at the heart of the Railmaster 60th Anniversary Limited Edition. A powerful antimagnetic movement, this caliber is resistant to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss.
The Omega Seamaster 300 60th Anniversary Limited Edition
An exceptional diver’s watch, the original Seamaster 300 made waves for its unprecedented water resistance. Plus, its black dial, bi-directional rotating bezel, broad arrow hands, and triangular hour markers, enabled legibility underwater. Inspired by Omegas CK2913, the trilogy’s Seamaster 300 60th Anniversary Limited Edition timepiece boasts a black aluminum bezel and also sports on its crown the ’57 symbol for outstanding water resistance: the famed Naïad sign.
A watch that exudes innovation and style, the Master Chronometer caliber 8806 powers this year’s update. And as a nod to the original 1957 model’s design, this Seamaster 300’s caseback also includes the Seahorse emblem.
The Trilogy 1957 Limited Edition Omega Watches
Each of the three Omega watches features a brushed and polished stainless steel case. Furthermore, to emphasize the vintage appeal, they each have a black “tropical” dial and patina hour markers. Omega paired the trio with stainless steel bracelets. While the bracelets respect the design of the original timepieces, they’re of course stronger than their predecessors. Rounding off the bracelet design is the retro-style Omega logo on the clasp.
The 60th Anniversary Speedmaster, Railmaster, and Seamaster 300 are each limited to 3,557 pieces only. The watches are presented in a gorgeous watch box that has been designed in homage to the original 1957 packaging. This includes Omega’s retro logo, a beige corduroy-lined interior, and the famed Seahorse on the lid. The box also includes two additional straps — leather and NATO — to change up the watch’s look and style.
For the serious Omega collector who wants all three pieces, Omega also offers the super limited Trilogy box. With just 557 available, this is a special set indeed. The lucky collector will receive the three wristwatches with matching Limited Edition numbers in an exceptionally designed and engraved Swiss oak watch box. Also included is a leather watch roll, along with three leather straps, three NATO straps, and tools.
