Therefore, Richard Mille furnished the RM030 watch with a rotor that automatically disengages from winding once the power reserve is at 50 hours. Then, when the watch dips below 40 hours of power reserve, the rotor re-engages again to wind the watch. The dial of the RM030 watch even includes an “ON/OFF” indicator to tell the wearer whether the watch is in winding mode or not.
The movement is called Caliber RMAR1 and it offers a total of 55 hours of power reserve — the wearer can override the declutchable rotor to fully wind the watch’s two barrels to 55 hours if he or she so wishes.
Another impressive feature of the movement is the ability to adapt the mainspring winding according to the wearer’s general activity level. By adjusting to one of six possible positions, the rotor’s inertia can be changed to either slow down or speed up the winding process depending on if the wearer is super active or not. An active lifestyle would benefit from slower winding while faster winding would be better suited to a more laidback way of life.

In true RM030 fashion, the dial is home to stylized Arabic numerals for the hour markers, large skeleton hands at the center for the hours and minutes, and a red-tipped seconds hand. There’s also a yellow outlined date window at 7 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock, and as previously discussed, the “ON/OFF” winding display below 12 o’clock. Finally, emblazoned just beneath the sapphire crystal shielding the dial is the “RM030” inscription in yellow.
