Golden Glory: An Exclusive Tour of Gold Rolex Models
A gold Rolex watch is without a doubt one of the world’s most recognizable signs of success. And lucky for us, Rolex makes plenty of gold watches to choose from. What’s more, not only are there the classic yellow gold variants, but there are also rose gold and white gold Rolex models to choose from. Fun fact: Rolex casts the 18k gold it uses to make watches in its own foundry to ensure the perfect formulation. Join us as we highlight some of the best gold Rolex models, both vintage and modern, available on the secondary market.
Yellow Gold Rolex Watches
Most Rolex collections, whether dressy or sporty, offer yellow gold models. Some of our favorite gold Rolex watches include the Submariner dive watch, Day-Date President, and Daytona chronograph.
Yellow Gold Rolex Submariner Watches
The contrast between a utilitarian watch such as a dive watch and a precious metal like gold is an appealing one and there’s nothing quite like a yellow gold Rolex Submariner. Rolex has been making gold Submariners since 1969, which translates into plenty of references to choose from.
Yellow gold Submariner references include the following:
- Submariner 126618LB and 126618LN
- Submariner 116618LB and 116618LN
- Submariner 16618LB and 16618LN
- Submariner 16808
- Submariner 1680/8
Vintage gold Submariner watches will have 40mm cases and aluminum bezels. Gold Submariners that were produced from 2008 onward feature ceramic bezels. Finally, in 2020, Rolex updated the entire Submariner line to include 41mm cases, all furnished with ceramic bezels. Regardless of the specific reference, all gold Submariner models are automatic, available with blue dials and bezels (LB) or black dials and bezels (LN), and come furnished with a date window at 3 o’clock. Modern versions are water resistant to 300 meters (1,000) feet.
Yellow Gold Rolex Day-Date President
The Day-Date in yellow gold is the archetypal luxury gold watch, introduced in 1955 as Rolex’s most prestigious timepiece. Better known as the Rolex President, the Day-Date watch is available in a multitude of sizes, bracelet types, bezels, and dial styles. However, what ties them all together is that they’re exclusively crafted in precious metals like gold and platinum and equipped with a pair of calendar windows on the dial for the day and date.
A yellow gold Day-Date fitted with a President bracelet and fluted bezel is the classic choice, and it’s available in 36mm, 40mm, and 41mm case sizes. Some key references include the following:
- Day-Date II (41mm) ref. 218238
- Day-Date 40 ref. 228238
- Day-Date 36 ref. 128238, 118238, 18238, 18038, 1803
The ultimate luxury gold watch, the Rolex Day-Date in yellow gold is a must-have in any collection.
Yellow Gold Rolex Daytona
The Daytona is not only Rolex’s most popular sports watch but it’s one of the most famous chronograph watches ever made. Furthermore, the Daytona is also a highly varied collection, featuring modes in a myriad of materials and colorways.
Yellow gold Rolex Daytona watches are particularly sought after, and they’re available in vintage, neo-vintage, or modern references. What’s more, depending on the exact reference, yellow gold Daytona watches can feature either metal bezels or ceramic bezels, in addition to metal bracelets, leather straps, or rubber straps. Moreover, vintage Daytona watches (produced from 1963 until 1988) have 38mm cases and manual-winding movements while those produced from 1988 onward have 40mm cases and automatic movements.
Yellow gold Daytona references include the following:
- In-house Automatic: Daytona ref. 126508, 126518LN 116528, 116518, 116508, 116518LN
- Neo-Vintage “Zenith” Automatic Daytona ref. 16528, 16518
- Vintage Manual Winding Daytona ref. 6239, 6241, 6262, 6264, 6265, 6263
Everose Gold Rolex Watches
Everose gold is Rolex’s proprietary rose gold alloy, formulated to not only achieve its beautiful color but to resist fading as well. Rolex introduced Everose gold in 2005 and since then, the brand has used this pink gold across many of its watch collections. Some of our favorite Everose gold Rolex watches include the Yacht-Master, Sky-Dweller, and Cellini.
Everose Gold Rolex Yacht-Master
Rolex first introduced the Yacht-Master in Everose gold in 2015, which was also the first time we saw the rubber Oysterflex bracelet. The Everose gold Yacht-Master is available in two sizes — 40mm and 37mm — and both are fitted with a black ceramic rotating bezel and a black Oysterflex bracelet.
There are also two dials available, one in black and the other in full diamond pavé. Regardless of the exact variant, Everose gold Yacht-Master watches are some of the most distinctive sports watches by Rolex.
Everose gold Yacht-Master references include the following:
- Yacht-Master 40 ref. 126655, 116655
- Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268655
Everose Gold Rolex Sky-Dweller
Introduced in 2012, the Sky-Dweller is one of Rolex’s most complicated models, boasting an annual calendar, month indicator, date, two time zones, and a bezel that interacts with the movement when rotated. Aesthetically, the Sky-Dweller is just as impressive, featuring a 42mm case topped with a fluted bezel, and various bracelets and dials to choose from.
One of the most striking among all the variants is the Everose gold Sky-Dweller, available on a matching gold bracelet, leather strap, or rubber Oysterflex bracelet.
Everose gold Sky-Dweller references include the following:
Sky-Dweller ref. 336935, 336235, 326135, 326935
Everose Gold Rolex Cellini Dual Time
The now-discontinued Cellini line was Rolex’s collection of traditional dress watches, exclusively made in gold or platinum. One of the more modern models was the Cellini Dual Time ref. 50525, featuring a 39mm Everose gold case, leather strap, and automatic movement.
The dial of the watch includes a subdial at 6 o’clock to indicate a second time zone, complete with a day/night indicator. This gold Rolex watch is one of the most elegant dress watches from the brand’s archives.
White Gold Rolex Watches
White gold is an understated choice given the similarity of color to other less expensive metals like steel or titanium However, those who wear white gold Rolex watches appreciate the more subtle nature of these precious metal timepieces. Some of our favorite white gold Rolex watches include the GMT-Master II, Pearlmaster, and Yacht-Master II.
White Gold Rolex GMT-Master II
In 2014, Rolex unveiled the very first white gold GMT-Master II, paired with the famed blue and red “Pepsi” bezel in ceramic. This was quite a statement given that all other GMT-Master Pepsi watches that came before were made in stainless steel. The white gold GMT-Master II remains part of the Rolex catalog, featuring a 40mm case paired with a white gold Oyster bracelet.
Rolex has made two references of the white gold GMT-Master so far: ref. 116719BLRO and 126719BLRO., where the latter version includes an updated movement. Dial options include black, dark blue, and meteorite.
White Gold Rolex Pearlmaster
Although it’s no longer in production, the Pearlmaster was Rolex’s line of ultra-exclusive jewelry watches, made only in gold or platinum and almost always set with diamonds. These were some of the most expensive gold Rolex watches ever made. The name of the watch is taken from its Pearlmaster bracelet, which is characterized by a five-piece configuration of curvy and polished links.
White gold Rolex Pearlmaster watches are especially attractive as the color of the metal complements diamonds beautifully. This Arabesque Pearlmaster (ref. 81339) version is particularly lavish, set with diamonds on the bezel, dial, and bracelet.
