Four Exemplary Breguet Watches Not To Miss
Few luxury watch brands boast the pedigree of manufacture Breguet. After all, it was founded in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet, considered one of the greatest watchmakers of all time. His inventions and contributions to horology are impressive and changed the course of watchmaking as we know it. Not only did he invent mechanical apparatuses such as the Breguet balance spring, the gong for repeater watches, and the famous tourbillon mechanism, he also established many classic watch design elements, such as Breguet numerals and Breuguet style hands, which are still used today. A.L. Breguet was also behind some of the most famous watches ever created including the world’s first wristwatch ordered by the Queen of Naples in 1810 and the famous “Marie-Antoinette” super-complication pocket watch that took 44 years to complete (A.L. Breguet had passed away already by the time it was finished).
Over 240 years after Breguet’s founding, the company continues to produce exquisite timepieces reserved for the most discerning horology fans. From classic timepieces to complex complications to sporty luxury watches, Breguet watches are some of the finest available in the industry. Read on to discover these four exemplary Breguet watches that showcase the brand’s diversity.
Breguet Tradition 7057
Breguet’s Tradition collection is an homage to A.L. Breguet’s original creations—particularly his “Souscription Watches.” The souscription (French for subscription) watches were a clever way for A.L. Breguet to raise funds by asking clients to pay a down payment to reserve a watch with the balance due upon completion of the timepiece.
This Breguet Tradition 7057 sports a modern-sized 40mm 18k white gold case presented with an elegant blue leather strap. The stunning open worked dial—along with the sapphire exhibition caseback—offers a clear view of the manual-wound Breguet Caliber 507 DR1 within. Also on the face of the watch is an off-centered dial housing the hour and minute hands, as well as the power reserve indicator. The subdial includes unmistakable Breguet hallmarks such as a hand-engraved engine guilloché dial and the blue Breguet style hands.
Breguet Classique 3337
As its name suggests, Breguet’s Classique collection pays tribute to classic aesthetics and watchmaking traditions, including plenty of horological complications.
This Breguet Classique 3337 features a refined 35.8mm 18k yellow gold case furnished with delicate fluting on the watch case sides. The dial is an absolute work of art, hand-decorated with rose-engine applied guilloche—note there’s not just one pattern, but several scattered around the dial. The balanced composition of the dial includes a moon phase indicator, a day window, a date window, and an off-centered subdial displaying the hours and minutes.
Flip the watch around and you’ll see the intricately decorated Breguet Caliber 502 automatic movement with a distinct off-center rotor.
Breguet Type XXI 3810
On the other end of the spectrum from classic and traditional dress timepieces, Breguet also produces aviation watches. The Type XXI collection is inspired by the Breguet aviation watches produced in the 1950s for the French naval air army.
Part of the current collection, this automatic Breguet Type XXI 3810 houses a flyback chronograph function within its 42mm steel case. The rotating bezel is engraved with Arabic numerals while the dial includes three subdials to displaying an am/pm indicator, a 12-hour totalizer, and running seconds. There’s also a date window at 6 o’clock. Emphasizing the vintage appeal of the watch is the brown dial and leather strap combo.
Breguet Marine Chronograph
Breguet’s Marine collection is another collection of luxury sports watches. While suited to modern tastes, the Marine timepieces draw inspiration from the chronometers A.L. Breguet produced for the French Navy.
With its 18k rose gold 42mm case and solid 18k rose gold bracelet, this Breguet Marine Chronograph 5827 combines sportiness and ultra-luxuriousness. The chocolate guilloché dial play background to two subdials, center hands, and a date window. Powering the watch is the automatic Breguet Caliber 583, which can be admired via the sapphire caseback.
Furthermore, for added versatility, this particular example comes with two additional straps—a classic leather one with an 18k rose gold deployant buckle and a super sporty rubber strap.
The appeal of Breguet watches is their ability to showcase design hallmarks and technical mastery from the days of the company’s famous founder while still adhering to contemporary sensibilities. These truly are timepieces that seamlessly blend old-world charm with modern-day expectations.
